Alphabet Wed.

So my main goal with my son right now is to learn and study finding and using his letters. I decided to do Alphabet Wednesdays for a craft theme. Today's letter was A

What goes better with A than apple?

Anyways, we made it simple today, we used paper to make an apple cut out and painted the body red and the leave and stem green. Simple, right? Not really. I would say that these cut outs should be made on cardboard or something sturdier than paper. Lesson learned. So we re-did the craft with cardboard.

Our next step is to use a sharpie marker to draw the letter A on the apple and finally to hang it on the wall in our 'class room'. We will continue these until the alphabet is complete.

Also, I plan to make a weekly craft curriculum and post it at the beginning of the week.

Please excuse me if I do things a little slowly, or skip days, I will certainly try to catch up.

A few of the things that I am hoping to teach {my son} are his ABC's, 123's, days, months, seasons, and how to spell his name. My goal is to accomplish these by Christmas. Wish me luck!

9/14/2010 .. Tuesday Bead feed!

Todays craft was simple. My son and I made bead necklaces. All you need is string, beads and patience.

I love this because we can teach patterns and numbers while making a craft. We counted how many of each color beads we used, and made patters by color and number. My son is running around the house right now with two necklaces on his neck.

After our craft we worked on our ABC chart and Number chart. We also used left over beads to add/subtract. I am determined to give my son a head start in life... I hope Im doing well.

Since this is my first real post I am also including a few of our past crafts. One of my personal favorites were our *coffee filter butterfly and flowers* . These are sooo simple. The only supplies you need are Coffee filters, markers, pipe cleaner, and a craft table or cardboard to put underneath of the project! All you need to do is use markes to color ANY pattern or design. Markers bleed through the filter, so you only need to color one side. *make sure to have your filter on a surface that is not important* When you're done coloring, pinch in the middle and use a pipe cleaner to make the body and antenna. I'm sure there are many other creative things you could do with this also. Have fun!

Our big craft was building a craft table, which my son is sitting at in the necklace picture. Behind him, I have started putting up educational posters. His table has bins that include all of his craft supplies and we also have a BIG plastic shelf that has some of the bigger items. The craft stores are the best place to go, especially to find cheaper items. We have so many easy crafts that I dont have to do anything other than observe. I think the independence is wonderful for my son, and the confidence he gets from completing something is great!
